Easy eating, cleaning and a virtually invisible appearance–these features and others make Invisalign clear aligners an obvious choice for older teens and adults. Who wouldn’t want healthy, straight teeth without the discomfort and lengthy treatment times common to metal bracket and wire braces? That’s why Marianna Gaitsgory DMD offers Invisalign to select patients in her Framingham, MA office.

The Invisalign aligners

Invisalign clear aligners are made from BPA-free acrylic according to Dr. Gaitsgory’s instructions,  patient impressions and 3-D imaging. Appropriate for mild to moderate orthodontic issues such as crossbite, open bite and tooth rotation, Invisalign aligners snap over top and bottom arches to move teeth into better positions. Amazingly, the appliances are very discreet–so much so that no one notices the patient is wearing them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who gets Invisalign? Older teens and adults get Invisalign. While complex orthodontic cases need more traditional braces, Invisalign aligners work well for simpler problems. People who desire more attractive smiles like Invisalign because they are truly invisible and may be removed to eat, to perform oral hygiene or for special occasions such as job interviews or weddings.

How long does treatment take? Treatment with Invisalign typically takes 9 to 18 months, with one year being about average. Patients receive a total of 18 to 30 pairs of aligners, and they visit their Framingham, MA dentist every 6 to 8 weeks for progress checks and to get new aligner pairs. There are no lengthy or painful adjustments, but to stay on track, patients must wear their aligners for the prescribed 20 to 22 hours per day.

Do Invisalign aligners cause dental pain? Orthodontic patients always experience some level of discomfort as their teeth are repositioned, and it’s usually worse at the beginning of treatment. However, with Invisalign clear aligners, patients mouths are much more comfortable than with metal braces, and soft tissues develop no sore spots. Aligners are customized and smooth.

How does the patient perform oral hygiene? Caring for aligners and for your teeth and gums is easy with Invisalign. The aligners are fully removable and cleaned with water and a quality, non-abrasive toothpaste. Patients brush their teeth twice daily and floss every day to keep teeth and gums healthy. They also keep their routine exams and cleanings every 6 months at Framingham Premier Dental.

What happens when treatment is over? Most patients wear retainers at night for several months post-treatment. Then, Dr. Gaitsgory often recommends a retainer permanently for a specified amount of time daily. Invisalign produces customized Vivera retainers.
